Sport Exhaust|Chrono|20/21″ RS
The Porsche 911 has shown an amazing resilience to the fashions of more than five passing decades. Its look, its dynamics and its very purpose have been steadfast and yet adaptive. Now it’s time for the next step, but in the same direction. The whole body is, to all intents and purposes, new. Before, the shell and skin was two-thirds steel. Now it’s only one-third, the rest being aluminium in sheet, extrusion and cast forms. On the outside every metal panel is changed. The body’s wider and shapelier but still in that blissfully subtle 911 manner. Launched so far as the Carrera S and 4S, the new car is substantially wider than the 991 – You can see why it’s grown. More width means more grip, and space for wider and larger-diameter tyres – the rear rims are 21″ in diameter and the 911 now clings on like a supercar on the limit. The PDK transmission is an entirely new eight-speeder. It’s quicker-shifting than it’s predecessor, but mostly it’s about saving fuel at speed. Both seventh and eighth are so long, the car actually gets to its circa-190mph at the top end of sixth. For a borderline supercar, practicality is the 911’s key trick. You can see out of it, and the good sized front boot is supplemented by a big space below the rear window.
The leather is neat, the screens high in responsiveness and resolution. Our model is finished in the classic GT Silver with the convertible top in red, with a complimentary theme carried through to the interior with the cost option of Black and Bordeaux Red two tone leather. The 20/21″ RS Spyder Design alloy wheels look amazing coupled with Sport Design side skirts which really add to it’s purposeful stance. The list of options on the interior keep on going: Sports exhaust system, Auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors with rain sensor, Porsche Entry & Drive, GT Steering wheel, Light Design pack, Sport Chrono, Crested headrests, Stopwatch and the fantastic BOSE Surround Sound System specifically developed for the 992.
What a car. Whenever we think that the 911 is the complete package, Porsche again outdo themselves, every time
